Lovefest Mojo Enjoy

Hi friends!  Welcome to the start of another week!  It's round or square week over at Mojo Monday and this week's sketch was designed by me.  It's based on this card I made a little while back...

I loved the clean lines that make it good for a masculine card, but I also could see the possibility for dressing it up a bit more to make a girly card.

For today's sample, I went with the frills  to test out the new Surely Goodness set and coordinating Goodness Flowers Die Set.  I also played along with Verve's In Love with Color Lovefest challenge.  You have until February 28 to play along in the Lovefest challenges, so be sure to check it out if you haven't already!

The papers are from the Take Note Collection by Studio Calico.  I sponged around the pink layer with Groovy Guava to give it a little depth.  The flowers from Surely Goodness are stamped in Pool Party on white cardstock, cut out with the Goodness Flowers Die Set, then colored with aquarelle pencils and a waterbrush.  I layered them on dimensionals and then added a bit of Stardust Stickles to every other petal and finished off with a flower gem sticker that's been in my stash forever for the flower center.

The woodgrain paper pieces are cut using the new Flag It Die Set and I hand cut early espresso mats for them, then stamped the enjoy sentiment from Surely Goodness on the bracket tab.  The little border peeking out on the left side is cut with the new Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set and I accented with a little string bling on either side.  I think the one rounded corner helped to soften up the layout a bit for a feminine feel.  My finished card size if 4.25" square.

Well, that's all for me today!  I'll be in the shipping office packaging new release orders the rest of the day.  I hope you have a fantastic start to your week.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

A Starry Lovefest

Hi friends!  Happy Saturday!  Today Verve is the featured member company during Splitcoast's Lovefest celebration.  We're hosting a fun challenge in our forum, so check it out for all the details.  There's a couple of prizes up for grabs, so it might just be worth playing along!  ;)  {LOVEFEST2013J Challenge Link}

My card is a really quick and easy masculine birthday card.  First I ran my new Starry Die through the die cut machine with a piece of white cardstock and a piece of early espresso cardstock.  I stamped the stripey star from Seeing Stars directly on the largest white die cut, filling up the entire die cut shape.  This is matted on a Pool Party SU! large star punch out.  The flag is from the new Flag It Die Set and is cut from so saffron cardstock and I embossed the happy birthday sentiment from Small Phrases and then layered it under the star.  Love the look of it!

I wrapped some hemptique thread around the espresso panel, then accented with a button.  The so saffron layer is embossed with the SU! chevron embossing folder.  Then I just layered it onto a panel of pool party, matted with early espresso and added one of the smaller espresso stars to the stripey star.  Easy peasy and I love how it turned out!  {grin}

Well, that's all from me today!  Now that I'm through the big push for release, it's time to get serious about planning the twins' first birthday party.  It's two weeks from today!  EEEEK!  Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

So Awesome

Hi friends!  It's RELEASE DAY over at Verve and Divas are putting on one last blog hop.  Today is designer's choice, so you'll be seeing the whole range of new products.  And today's blog hop prize is  a real humdinger.. the entire release!  Everything you've seen previewed this week is available in the store today!

If you've already been hopping you should have arrived from Jen Shults' blog.  If not, just jump right in! The master hop list is at the bottom of this post and you can check out all the prize details and the reveal of the new products over on the Verve Blog.

By the time I finished getting the website ready for release I only had 30 minutes left of nanny time, so I knew my card for today needed to be quick.  I hadn't had a chance to play with So Fluttery yet, so I pulled it out along with a few new dies and got straight to work.  I'd been thinking about resist, so I decided to emboss the butterfly with clear ink and embossing powder as a background all over my panel, then color over it with Gelatos in a rainbow of colors and blend with a baby wipe.  I tore a few edges and the main background was done.  Easy peasy!  Next I stamped the You are so sentiment onto a banner from the Banner Bundle Die Set.  And I embossed the awesome in white on a black die cut of the bracket tab from the Flag It Die Set.  I just love how these dies can be layered to add a whole new world of accents!  To add a fun little frame for the bracket tab, I simply traced the bottom edge of the die cut shape with a black pen, then moved it up a ways, traced the top and then glued it down in the center.  Such an easy way to add a border!

Speaking of borders, I used two of the three dies from the Scallop Trim Trio Die Set on this card.  The star border is up top and I used the circle border below my ruffled ribbon and as a little accent at the top of my sentiment banner.  The ribbon is one of the colors of seam binding from the new Spring Fling Ribbon Collection.  Scrumptious!

For one more accent I embossed the same butterfly in clear and embossed, then did some more Gelato blending and stamped the coordinating outline butterfly over the top in black.  {If I were to do it again, I'd stamp the black first, then stamp the clear and emboss, because the black ink slid a little on the clear embossing).  I finished with some black pearl accents to the butterfly body, which is all stamped onto a Flutterby Die cut.  And just because, I threw in some spritzing with my trusty Air Art Tool from SU! and a pumice stone distress marker.  30 minutes start to finish.  Whew!  {grin}

Okay, there's still lots of eye candy to go, so I'll just leave you with the hop list and enabler's list.  Thanks so much for stopping by and hopping along with us this release!  I hope you enjoyed our first looks at the new stamps!

Next up on the hop is the amazingly talented Laurie!

It is Well Mixed-Media Canvas

Hi friends!  It's time for Day 3 of Verve's Spotlight Hops and today the Divas are shining their spotlights on Surely Goodness and the Happy Anniversary Plain Jane.  If you've already been hopping you should have arrived from Jen Shults' blog.  If not, why not hop right in!?  The master hop list is at the bottom of this post and you can check out all the prize details (YES, you can win free stamps for commenting on the Diva blogs!) over on the Verve Blog.  All of the stamps & dies you see previewed will be available in the Verve Store on Friday, February 22  (only one more sleep)!

Today I have a mixed-media canvas to share with you.  The stamping is very simple... just the It is well with my soul sentiment and the word peace in the background (both from the Surely Goodness set).  I had intended on making a card to really showcase this set, but between twins and business and taxes and trying to get the website ready for release I just didn't have time to make a card.  However, I know the girls will be showcasing the fun flowers in this set, so be sure to hop around and see it all.  Instead you get to see a canvas I made just for fun.

The flowers on my 5 x 7" canvas board are made with the Donna Downey Poppies & Peonies stencil.  After applying gesso to the canvas, I used the stencil with some clear tar gel, then added acrylic paints and gelatos for the background.  I was going for a resist technique, but I didn't let the tar gel dry enough so the resist wasn't as apparent as I would have liked.  After a little shading with a Faber-Castell big brush pen and the stamping of the sentiment, here's what the work in progress photo looked like.  See how my yellows bled into my resist and my flowers are not-so-white?

Not to worry!  Since it was a stencil, I was able to just line the stencil back up over my canvas and add a thick layer of light modeling paste.  Then I waited a good long time to make sure everything was dry this time!  I did a little touch up of the grey big brush shadowing around the flowers, then lined up my sentiment and stamped it again and embossed it so it would stand out.

Next I pulled out the Koi watercolors that Mark got me for my birthday this year and I still hadn't had a chance to use.  I had a lot of fun coloring in the flowers and stems with the watercolors.  It was so cool to see how the pigment moved on the texture of the modeling paste.  I think that's what I love most about mixed-media... the discovery!

Anyhow, I just love they hymn It is Well and was singing it all the while I made this canvas.  The song reminds me of my Grandpa.  I sang this song constantly for several weeks after he passed away it was the on thing that kept the grief at bay.  So I decided that peace was  the perfect thing to put in the background to add a little "texture" to the piece.  I stamped the sentiment in Pumice Stone distress ink randomly on the canvas, trying to make it darker in some parts and lighter in others.

My final addition was working a bit of Mint Julep spray onto the corners and waterbrushing into the stems to give a richer color contrast to the piece and tie the colors together.  I finished with a bit more grey big brush shading around the edges, then sealed with a workable fixative.

Okay, there's still lots of eye candy to go, so I'll just leave you with the hop list and enabler's list.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you back here tomorrow for our release day hop!  Next up on the hop is my fabulous friend, Laurie!

Shiny and New

Hi friends!  It's time for Day 2 of Verve's Spotlight Hops and today the Divas are shining their spotlights on two new sets... Shining Star and So Fluttery.  If you've already been hopping you should have arrived from Jen Shults' blog.  If not, why not hop right in!?  The master hop list is at the bottom of this post and you can check out all the prize (YES, you can win free stamps for commenting on the Diva blogs!) details over on the Verve Blog.  All of the stamps & dies you see previewed will be available in the Verve Store on Friday, February 22!

For my preview, I chose to use the new Shining Star set and the Starry Die.  My One Little Word for 2013 is SHINE, so I just had to design a new set with some shining sentiments!  {grin}

I made a couple of simple cards featuring two of the sentiment stamps in the set.  Same layout (just flipped) for both.  The sentiments are stamped onto some map paper that is toned down a bit with some watered down gesso so the ink would show up better.  I used one of the dies in the new Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set along the sentiment panel, then tied a bow of hemptique silver crafting cord around the panel, added a second bow and accented with a wood veneer star which I painted with liquid pearls and sprinkled glitter on.

The starry die is one die that cuts all of the stars at once.  Since it's a stand-alone die, it doesn't have alignment holes, so it's perfect for using the negative of the die cut in fun ways.  Here I cut the die from Sahara Sand, then crimped with my paper crimper and layered over some polka dot paper.  Simple, but striking and perfect for a masculine or feminine recipient.

Okay, there's still lots of eye candy to go, so I'll just leave you with the hop list and enabler's list.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you back here tomorrow for the Day 3 hop!  Next up on the hop is Laurie!

3x4 Journaling and Filler Cards

I've been so excited for these sets and coordinating dies to arrive!  Like seriously giddy!  I always love it when a stamp set fills a need that I have in my personal stamping stash... it's like the ideas just keep coming and there's just not enough time to implement them all!  And there definitely hasn't been a lot of time around here, but I promise you you'll be seeing a lot of these sets in the months to come.
4 x 6 Week In Review Card

I've never been too much of a scrapbooker.  I never took pictures of myself and found there were only so many interesting ways to scrapbook a cat, so I just stuck with card making.  But now that I've got these two little guys in my life, it seems the camera is always clicking and I'm already starting to forget little things that happened in the last year.  So it's time to do a little memory keeping.  I decide on a mix of things including Project Life for it's ease and ability to do in short little bursts throughout the week.  For today's hop I made a 1/2 spread of the boys and also a couple Weekly title cards for future pages.  Used a couple of the sentiments from Remember This punched out with circle punches to highlight the boys' sleeping photos.

Project Life half spread

I used both Remember This and Calendar Countdown on the 3 x 4 and 4 x 6 cards I made for today and also used all but one of the 5 new die products...  Banner Bundle Die Set, Flag It Die Set, Starry Die and Scallop Trim Trio Die Set.  I'm not going into the how of every card, but if you have questions be sure to ask and I'll try to answer them tomorrow.

Aqua + Silver Anniversary

Hi friends!  It's Monday and time for another Mojo Monday sketch.  This week's sketch is designed by Mary Fish and it's definitely a keeper!  Verve has a release this Friday, so I *might* have snuck a couple super sneaky peeks into my sample card today.  {grin}

When I saw the sketch, I had this vision of a super clean and simple white on white card with just a silver embossed sentiment and a dry embossed backdrop. But then I shied away from all that white space.  It was scary!  {grin}  So I pulled out the Text Objects set and stamped the background across a white piece in Versamark and embossed with silver.  That was a bit too much and stole the focus from the focal sentiment, so I decided to dry emboss the panel with the Square Lattice embossing folder and then lightly added some white gesso in areas and did a little distressing to tame things down.

The sentiment is a brand new plain jane that will release from Verve this Friday aptly called Happy Anniversary.  It's embossed in silver.  I added the smaller stitched heart from Text Objects to the other two circles and embossed them in silver as well.  I then painted them with a faber-castell big brush pen and an aquapainter and then covered with Glossy Accents for an epoxy look.  The heart border is part of the soon to be released Scalloped Trim Trio Die Set and it's cut from some shiny silver cardstock.  The little silver hearts in each circle are the remnants from when you cut the border.  I finished with a bit of hemptique silver crafter's cord, matted on some shiny silver and a 4.25 x 5.5" card base.

Okay, I've got lots to do this week to prepare for the release.  The twins are feeling *so* much better, so hopefully I'll be able to be super productive this week.  Have a great start to your week.  I'll see you back here tomorrow for the first official sneak peek of this Friday's release!  Have a fantastic day and be sure to check out what the other Mojo Makers did with this sketch on the Mojo Monday blog!

Starry Card, Sick Boys and Valentine Wishes

Hi friends!  Happy Heart Day!  It's been a while, hasn't it?  I've been desperately wanting to get inky... BUT these two little munchkins have been sick and I've had my hands full.  It's so sad to see them struggling to breathe. Trevor's had the worst of it and you can definitely tell his weight is down when you see him next to Kellan.  Hard to believe they're already 11 months old and I'm in the midst of planning their first birthday party!

I did make a birthday card last weekend for my dad (who's a Valentine's Day baby).  We celebrated his and Mark's birthday (which is tomorrow) on Sunday.  I was trying to go for clean & simple, but somehow that mixed media grunge just wormed its way in and I had to keep going with it.  :)   Not sure if my dad appreciated the grunge or not, but there wasn't time to make another and my birthday card stash is seriously depleted!

The stamps are all from the Borderline set and I used the coordinating Mini Classy Label die set and added some wood veneer stars, Hemptique thread and a bunch of distressing.  Papers are from the Scoot line by Echo Park.

Oh and before I forget.. there's some exciting news over on the Verve blog today!  So go check it out!  Hope you have a fantastic Valentine's Day!

Enabler's List

Pencils and Such

Hi friends!  Happy Thursday!  I can't believe how fast the week is flying by.  My twins have been really sick the past week, so I haven't had a whole lot of time to get crafty.  Last night my creative side finally rebelled and hit the craft room instead of the bed during the bit of down time I had.  I'm sure I'll regret that later today.  {grin}

I had a list of things I wanted to try as I've been spending quite a bit of time on Pinterest on my iPad while watching the boys.  When I ran across this pencil eraser stamp tutorial I knew I MUST try it out.  Little known fact is I'm a sucker for office supplies. Whenever I see those cute designer pencils I just HAVE to buy them!  So I started with that concept to make a little pencil eraser banner on one of the panels.  After I stamped it with Peeled Paint ink I outlined it with a black pen to give it a bit more definition.  In my internet travels I've also seen a bunch of cards lately with the woodgrain embossing folder (which I'd forgotten I even had until last week) and wood veneer stars (another goody just sitting in the closet collecting dust).  Oh, and washi tape... I've bought so much of it I think I need to put it on every card from here to eternity!

Anyhow, I used all scraps from my pile for this one.  The sentiment is from Amazing Wishes and I embossed it in white on a Floral Circles die cut which was stamped lightly with white mix'd media inx with the largest flower from Hope Blooms.  I then snipped along each petal and curled them up, then swiped the edges with white gesso.  Most of my scraps are distressed with white gesso as well.  The stars are coated with a bit of gesso, black stickles and distress peeled paint stickles.  The border die is a long Tim Holtz one I hadn't tested out yet and the leaves are the Elegant Leaves die cut and I hand sketched in the leaves to match the feel of the card.

The layout is a skewed version of the February Week 1 Viva la Verve! sketch.  It's a new month and there's plenty of time to play along with the sketches for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to Verve Stamps!  Okay, that's all from me for this go round.  Hope you have a fantastic day!

Hope and a HOP

Hi friends!  It's the 5th of the month and that means it's time for a Diva Inspirations Hop!  I'm kicking off this shindig with a triple take on one of my favorite plain jane stamps... Hope PerchesBe sure to hop around and leave a little love on all the Diva blogs listed below for a chance to win a $30 Gift Certificate to the Verve store!  All the details are over on the Verve Blog today.

I started my card trio with a clean, masculine concept. These Dear Lizzy leaf & feather stickers came in a recent Scarlet Lime Mixed Media Kit and I immediately knew I wanted to pair them with the Hope Perches stamp.  I loved the color scheme of the feathers in the package (yellow, kraft and aqua), so I chose to stick with that for my first card.  The sentiment is stamped directly onto a plain old ruled index card and distressed it a bit.  This is layered onto a woodgrain embossed piece of So Saffron with a bit of washi tape.  I added a hint of distressing to the edges, applied my leaf & feather sticker and mounted on a kraft card base.  Easy peasy.  Seriously a 5 minute card.

Next I  chose the kraft feather and since it had some pink details, I thought it would be perfect with the left over scrap of white cardstock I had from cleaning the hollyhock stencil I used on my Snowy Grace card.  (Mixed media has taught me to never throw away a cool looking scrap!)  So I stamped over the gelato background with the Hope Perches sentiment, then added a little interest with the polka dot background from Bountiful Backgrounds.  The ribbon treatment uses seam binding from the Truly Madly Deeply Ribbon Collection.  I simply tied a bow around the side of the panel, then tied another bow and glued it over the top.  I added a little center of glass glitter and a big pink pearl as an embellishment.  The leaf and feather sticker, some distressing and a bit more of that yummy glass glitter finished that card off.  This card took about 20 minutes, mainly because I couldn't figure out what to put in the center of the bow.  :)

For my final card I stamped more polka dots from Bountiful Backgrounds on white card stock.  I was excited to play in the new Mix-ability Challenge over on SCS, so for my matte finish I whitewashed over the background stamping with a mixture of tan acrylic paint and water.  Next I stamped the Hope Perches sentiment in Purely Pomegranate and embossed with clear embossing powder for a bit of shine.  I also shaded my yellow feather with Faber Castell pitt pens, then added detailing with Glossy Accents for my shiny medium.  I laid down some Tim Holtz tissue tape in the corners.  (This stuff doesn't stick very well, but I love it, so I just put a light coat of matte decou-page over it and sprinkled some dazzling diamonds on it for a hint of sparkle).  The little birdie is a wood veneer shape which I stamped with the same polka dot border then added a bit of twine below it for a nest.  I stamped the hope from the sentiment onto cotton tape then cut it out and stuck it below the birdie.  The background is embossed with the Post Card Texture Fades from Tim Holtz, which I sponged with Vintage Photo ink and distressed, then added a twine bow and a metal button. I have no idea how long this card took, because I kept getting interrupted, so it evolved over three different crafting sessions.  It was definitely the funnest to make though.  Exactly my style.  {grin}

Well, I hope you've enjoyed my little mini tour with the Hope Perches plain jane.  It's time to head on over to Betty's Blog for the next Verve-alicious stop on the hop.  Here's the official hop list...  Happy hopping!
